Start with the required hole

The HB350's diameter limit is different from its depth limit. A 2-inch depth rating does not mean the machine can make a 2-inch-diameter annular hole. Write both measurements down for the largest hole in your project before comparing product cards.

If your drawing requires 1-1/2-inch holes, this model is outside the stated diameter rating. If your largest hole is 1 inch, several machines may meet the basic capacity requirement, and the comparison should move to access, cutter compatibility and the complete equipment cost.

Interpret speed in the context of the cutter

A higher RPM figure is not an automatic advantage for every material and cutter. Before choosing the HB350, compare the cutter manufacturer's recommended operating range with the drill specification. Keep loaded and no-load speed figures separate when reviewing competing machines.

Avoid selecting a drill by motor amperage alone. Your job also depends on whether the intended cutter fits, whether the machine can sit correctly beside the hole, and whether the operating controls remain accessible once it is positioned.

Check the included equipment

Makita's US listing identifies a 500 mL coolant bottle with connection hose, polyester safety strap, cutting guard, hex wrenches and a tool case. Confirm the exact seller's package rather than assuming every used or discounted offer includes all these items.

Price the cutters and pilot pins needed for the first job separately. If a bundle includes many sizes, compare them with your drawings; a large quantity does not guarantee useful coverage. If you already own cutters, have their exact shank and depth checked against the operator manual before counting them as reusable.

Resolve the mounting details before purchase

A model-specific minimum plate thickness has not been confirmed in this guide. Obtain the exact US operator manual before selecting a thin or unusual workpiece. Capacity describes cutting capability, not a guarantee that the base can attach safely to every steel surface.
